Font Tutorials

These font technics in this tutorial are not my ideas but are used by many painters throughout Voodoo and Halsoft. I am only going to show you how I do them and if anyone has an easier way plz let me know..lol.

In this first set of 4 avs I used Avante Garde set at size 30 and Davids Device set at 7.

1. Paint your av, on a new raster layer add Avante Garde..size 30...position it where you want it.

2. On another raster layer apply drop shadow..horizontal and verticle 1..opacity 93..and blur 4.0.

(I use psps drop shadow but many painters use eye candy filter..use which ever one you like using)

after you have added your font and drop shadow reduce the font layer to 42 and the shadow layer to 50. (these opacity settings differ from av to av so you need to reduce opacity according to the av you are working with) In the third av i also used gray and didnt reduce opacity on the font or the shadow. On the 4th av i added Graphics plus to the font layer giving it a 2 tone white/gray look. Many times i also add the shadow twice..depends how dark i want it to be.

This next set of avs is using Xenotron and BM Mini fonts. These are just ways to show you the different ways to tag an av using these fonts. Xenotron is at size 8 with same drop shadow settings as above and BM Mini is at size 6. In the first av I did the drop shadow twice on both fonts. On the 2nd av I put Xenotron on it twice and did a drop shadow on both then reduced the opacity of the font down to 48. Merge layers and do another layer then add Xenotron again in the middle of the other two..add drop shadow twice. (on any of these avs you can add your own bit of magic to them as well..my thing is dots, squares, boxes and lines..lol) In the third av i used Impact..size 30 for the large C and instead of a drop shadow I used Eye Candy 4000 Gradient glow on it. In gradient glow on the first tab(basic) i slide the bar on glow width to 3.0. On color tab i clicked on thin and with the dropper you can choose a color from the av. with the slider you can move it to how thick or dark you want the glow around the font. Besure to add new layer for the font and a new layer for the glow. The idea is to mix and match fonts so that it looks good but not over done.

In this next lot of avs we will use 1 Smooth DNA font set at 30-38....depends how big you want your letter....BM Stamp set at size 7.. Sloop Script set at size 30..Hooge set at size 6..as well as fonts that we have already gone over. In the first av i used 1 smooth dna for the large C...i gave it 2 drop shadows and then on the font layer i gave it a cross shadow from graphics plus. Then i finished that tag with xenotron. In the corner I used BM Stamp. I literally choose a color in the av and go aroud the font and inside where the letter is using the brush in psp. I go out of lines alot and have to undo and start over (if anyone knows an easier way to do this then please let me know..lol)

The Next av is using BM Stamp size 7 in 2 different colors....give it a new layer and then add the font...type in a letter or 2 in one color and then go up top and select none...on same layer add the letters in that you skipped but besure to add them in only the areas you missed the first time in your other color....select none and on same layer add your drop shadow. On this av i did drop shadow twice.

In 3rd av I used Sloop Script at size 30 with a drop Shadow then i reduced the opacity on the font to 56 and the drop shadow to 68. Then over the top of it i used Hooge..size 6 with 2 drop shadows.

The 4th av is using 1 Smooth DNA as the large C and hooge with gradient glow. Satisfaction Font at the bottom at size 16.

All fonts can be downloaded from Charmed or Other paintshops around voodoo..This is just a guide to help with fonts. Sizes depend on the av you are working with :)
